How to print photos from an iPhone and iPad

From time to time you may find it useful to send documents or photos to your printer directly from your iPhone or iPad, rather than your computer.

By cutting out the need to connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer and copy images or documents across devices first, you can save yourself time and effort, and enjoy reeling off family photos, confirmation documents or hastily drafted shopping lists with ease.

How to print photos from an iPhone

  • Connect your iPhone/iPad and printer to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Download the printer manufacturer’s software (usually an app).
  • Launch the app on your iPhone.
  • Open the app and select a location to search for an image to print. You can print images directly from your iPhone, or you’ll be able to select from connected Cloud services or URLs. You’ll also be able to choose any text documents from any of these services.
  • Once you select a photo you want to print you will be given the option to edit the photo. You can choose from a variety of options, such as resizing, cropping or changing the image angle.
  • Before you send the image to print, preview to ensure you’re happy with your selection and edits.
  • Select print and collect your photos or documents once complete.

How to print photos from an iPad

  • Using your iPad, navigate to the Apple App Store and download the relevant app. Ensure that your printer and iPad are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Open the app and select and re-size images, or select documents to print as you would with an iPhone.
  • Choose which printer you’d like to send the document to if there’s more than one printer connected.
  • Tap the send button once you’re ready to print.

How to change photo print size on an iPhone or iPad

Once you’ve selected a photo through the app, you’ll have a variety of options when it comes to editing. One option is re-sizing the photo, alongside being able to crop and straighten the image. Re-sizing your photo can be done by choosing one of the preset photo sizes in the app, all with intuitive touch screen controls.

Which is the best paper for printing photos?

Most modern printer options can print on standard or glossy paper types. For the most authentic finish, Brother recommends printing images on to glossy printer paper. As for photo sizes, most apps will come with presets for 4”x6”, 3.5”x5”, 5”x7” as well as standard printer paper sizes, like A4. Be sure to check the print preview before you send your images to be printed from your iPhone, to ensure it’s the right size and orientation for you.
