How to print from your phone

Whether you’re at home, in the office or on the go, sometimes you need to print quickly. That often means you’ll want to print a document or image from your phone.

In our personal lives, we spend hours on our phones, so there’s no surprise when occasionally we come across something we want to print. This could be anything from a photo from social media to a document in an e-mail. Meanwhile, in the workplace, printing is often essential. And with the increasingly busy and mobile nature of work these days, printing from a phone is an increasingly common requirement.

In the past you’d have to go through a series of long, complicated steps to print that photo or document. Your options were either to send that photo or document in an e-mail to print from your computer or save the file, connect your phone to a computer via USB, find the file and then send it on to your printer. Not only did this take a long time, but it also left documents vulnerable to potential security threats.

But now, with compatible wireless printers, you can easily print photos and documents directly from your phone.

How can I print from my phone?

To start, you need to connect your wireless printer to a wireless network. Then ensure the phone that you’d like to print from is connected to that same network.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed any apps your printer may require, you’re ready to get started.

Step 1: Choose to print from your phone

Once you’ve opened one of these apps, you should be greeted with very clear options. In this case you’ll want to select the ‘print’ option. That’s step one completed, simple!

Step 2: Choose where on your phone you’d like to print from

You should have plenty of options when it comes to printing from your phone.

With most manufacturer’s apps, you can select documents from your device. This includes PDF documents, Excel documents, PowerPoint documents and Word documents. Simply choose a document from your list, or switch to a grid selection view if you prefer.

Alternatively, if you want to print an image from your device, you can select from your camera roll or saved images. You’ll be able to choose the size of the image you’re printing before you confirm.

You can even print web pages. Just provide a website URL and you’re set to print.

You can preview all printing jobs through your phone before you send them to your wireless printer.

Step 3: Print from your phone

Once you’re happy with your document or image, which in many cases can be edited through the app before you send, you can print to your desired networked printer. It really is that simple!
