Creating a solution for full ingredients labelling for PPDS food needn’t be complex or expensive.
There are different solutions for producing the labels you need, depending on your circumstances. These can vary from a simple solution using a PC-connected printer and free software, to a more advanced solution, integrating with a third-party food management system.
Below we outline some of the options you could consider.
Looking for a basic solution for a single site? Start here:
Single-site option using free software and a PC-connected label printer
You can build a simple system using a Brother TD thermal printer connected via USB, WiFi or Bluetooth to your PC or laptop, and Brother’s free P-touch Editor label design software.
All you need is a database of your products and ingredients in Microsoft Excel, from which the software extracts the information to create your labels.
You can use pre-set templates or design your own.
You can then easily send the labels to print on one of Brother’s 2” or 4” thermal printers.
Standalone printer option
If you want more flexibility and to be able to control the label output directly from the printer without connecting to a PC or laptop, you can simply add our optional screen and touchpad to the printer.
This allows you to transfer your label templates from your PC via USB to the printer, which stores the data inside the printer so you can disconnect from the PC.
Then, using the printer touchpad and display, you can search for the labels you require from your database and print them on-demand.
By adding the optional battery and battery base to your printer, you can also make this fully portable, with no need for cables.
