Overview
Faced with the increasing demand for allergen transparency and operational efficiency, Atis turned to Brother and Dill to deliver a scalable, intuitive labelling system that supports both stock rotation and pre-packed for direct sale (PPDS) compliance – helping teams to reduce food waste, improve accuracy and save time on manual processes.
The solution has been implemented across nine Atis locations and combines Brother’s TD-2D compact, desktop label printers with Dill’s smart food labelling platform.
Streamlining high-volume food labelling across multiple locations
Atis was manually managing expiry tracking and food labelling – risking inconsistency, staff error and inefficiencies during peak service times. With a rapidly expanding footprint and a high turnover of fresh ingredients, the business needed a robust solution to streamline operations without compromising on compliance or quality.
At the time, the recently introduced UK food regulation Natasha’s Law, which mandates full ingredient labelling on pre-packaged foods sold directly to consumers, highlighted the growing need for a more intelligent solution to manage allergen labelling across grab-and-go products.
Atis wanted a solution that could be rolled out quickly across multiple London locations, was easy for teams to adopt, and could flex with the business as it continued to grow.
A dual-solution approach to support growth and compliance
Working in partnership, Brother and Dill provided a fully integrated food labelling system tailored to the needs of a fast-paced food retail operation.
Dill’s smart food labelling platform enables real-time tracking of stock rotation and automated allergen labelling for PPDS compliance. Customisable workflows also allow teams to manage labelling with minimal training or disruption to service.
Dill’s platform is partnered with Brother’s durable, high-performance TD-2D thermal label printers, which supports the system with fast, reliable label printing across both internal prep areas and customer-facing packaging. The label printers are also available with a battery pack and carry handle to support on-the-go operations.
The first phase of rollout began in October 2023 with a trial and staff training. A month later, the solution was live across nine locations, including sites in Canary Wharf, Covent Garden and Regent Street – with the 10th London location to follow in 2025.
Throughout the rollout, Brother worked closely with Dill to ensure seamless hardware integration. By combining ease of use with print reliability, the team helped Atis scale without the need for complex, time consuming training, keeping staff focused on service and food quality.
Improving accuracy, reducing waste and freeing up staff time
Since implementation, Atis has significantly reduced the time staff spend on manual labelling tasks by 60%, while improving accuracy and ensuring full compliance with food safety legislation.
The business is now able to:
- Provide clear, consistent allergen and ingredient labelling while complying with Natasha’s Law and other food regulation requirements
- Free up front-and back-of-house teams during busy periods
- Expand across new locations without introducing operational risk
The solution has also helped the business reduce food waste by 25% through precise stock rotation tracking, supporting its ethos of being a healthy and sustainable choice for the customer.
Brother and Dill brought together best-in-class hardware and software to deliver a solution that empowers Atis to operate more efficiently and with greater compliance across a growing network of stores.
As the business prepares for further expansion in 2025, the labelling infrastructure is already in place to support that growth – giving Atis the tools it needs to maintain high standards of compliance and customer trust.
