Better than expected
I'm using this printer as a replacement to our home printer.
Having a duplex scanner with document feeder was the key draw for me. I've cleared out my old filing cabinet and keeping those archived documents digitally now.
Bonus features for me:
Being able to scan directly to OneDrive/Google Drive
2 trays for different paper types
Very easy to setup (no software installation needed, did it all from the touch screen)
A3 printer - although not used this yet

Really love this printer, excellent value for money and all the facilities I wanted from an all-in-one. NIce to have the A3 printing option from the second paper tray too.

Nice device let down by wireless connection issues
Setting up wireless was very frustrating and time-consuming. Once I got it working everything was fine until it forgot all the settings a few days later and refused to reconnect without a factory reset. Otherwise a competent machine with great build quality for the price, smart looks and small footprint.

Wi Fi compatibility
A nightmare trying to get this machine to pick up my router. iMac and printer right next to it, no problem. Uploaded all updates, because cd doesn't have the latest apple program.
Had all sorts of expert input with no success.
Seriously considering taking an axe to it.

Can't fault it
It's hard to think of any improvement to this AIO (all-in-one). Well, I can think of just one: put the power connector point at the side not the back, then the printer can be pushed right up against the back wall and only take up 29cm of your desk or bookshelf, instead of 31cm. (Though you'll still have to pull it out a bit if you want to raise the scanner lid).
But enough of that negativity, everything else is simply amazing. The double-sided scanning is a dream, haven't had a single jam yet, and its motivated me to migrate my home-office to "paperless" mode. Nearly all paper sent to me now goes in the bin after scanning.
The printing is also a dream and haven't had a single paper jam there either - which is amazing really, because this printer feeds the paper thru at right angles to the direction of the paper threads. That's why it doesn't project far from the wall and enables you to put it on your desk next to the screen, and still have lots of usable work surface in front. By printint lengthways along the paper, they can shorten the depth of the paper tray and still include the duplexing unit (which can easily add about 10cm to the depth).
But this is where it gets even more amazing. This 'skinny' printer, more skinny than any other AIO, will actually print on A3 from the bottom tray! I don't do it very often, but when I do do it, I really need to do it, if you see what I mean.
The software is good as well. I always like to have a 'print review' function. I know you should do that at document creation, but i find there's always something you spot at print time, plus you know that the pagination at that point is genuine. And this software has a print review option.
I've connected by USB so can't comment on the other connectivity options. From past experience with loads of printers and scanners, I've found wireless and even ethernet cable connections, when scanning, are a pain, and it always becomes temperamental at the most inconvenient time. I did a few wireless prints at the beginning and they were fine though.
I upgraded from the MFC-J4510DW for the double sided scanning and A3 printing, and it was worth every penny.

This is a good looking printer, very practical with a small foot print.it is amazing value for an A3 printer although it will only print to photo quality one A3 fed through one page at a time.

Loaded with useful features and easy to use
For some reason I always assumed brother printers were not well supported on the Mac. I was very wrong. This printer works beautifully with OSX and iOS and I have not installed the accompanying software. I have just connected to wifi then allowed the Mac to auto detect it
The large clear touch screen interface is well laid out and the whole product is very well designed with the ink and paper easy to access. The scanner tray folds away so that the feeder doesn't gather dust when not in use. The printer supports fast 'N' wireless networking so prints and scans are sent and received between printer and computer very quickly.
The printer even supports the 'print to fax' over the network meaning a fax can be sent from any Mac OSX program without having to print the page off first. AirPrint for iOS devices works great too and a Brother iOS app allows operation of the scanner from a mobile device over wifi
Having two printer trays and a duplex scanner is a bonus too and it's possible to have different paper sizes loaded in each tray and use the rear bypass slot to print a single sheet of A3 off.
The interface is very easy to use via the touchscreen and it's even possible to have one touch short cuts to scan directly to Dropbox and other internet services so a scan can be made and uploaded without turning the computer on.
The printer is fast and reasonably quiet, the inks are average price and seem to be lasting well. The only downside is the four ink system isn't quite as vibrant as my old 6 ink printer, but the print quality is great otherwise. I am using inkjet paper and glossy photo paper.
I have no hesitation in recommending this printer to a small/home office user who wants a machine that can cope with a wide variety of printing and scanning tasks.
