ISO 11798: Permanence and durability of writing, printing and copying on paper.

One of the main concerns companies have regarding ink technology is the need to keep important business letters in archive so they can refer to them at a later date. The quality of the business documents should still be of a high standard, even after a number of years in storage.

Accreditations

Our black LC980 / LC1100 / LC1100HY ink have achieved ISO 11798.

This rigorous standard means our prints are archive proof. This means they’ll be readable even after exposure to light, water, handling and storage.

ISO-11798, relates to the durability of the ink on the printed page, so it can be used without fear of degradation for legal and financial documents.

It will be possible to read the documents now and in the future. It will also be possible to copy, scan and microfilm new documents and documents which have been exposed to light, water, handling and long-term storage.

In addition, the recording process does not have a negative effect on the paper strength.

The standard contains requirements in terms of:

  • Appearance and colour strength
  • Light fastness
  • Water resistance
  • Transfer of recording
  • Wear resistance
  • Heat resistance
  • Influence on the mechanical strength of the paper

In terms of customer benefits this means that small businesses and home office users can now comply with the legal requirements for printed documents in their profession.

For example, Solicitors working from home can be confident that when printing legal documents using their Brother inkjet (from 2008 products) that their printing meets the ISO standard required.

Previously the standard was limited to laser machines. Brother currently is the only Inkjet manufacturer who can offer ISO-11798 certified inkjet machines on entry level products for the small and home office market.

PTS Certification

Brother has again shown it understands businesses customer needs by conducting testing on their black ink with The Paper Technology Specialists.

Brother has also achieved PTS certification on its black LC1100HY inks, used in conjunction with BP60 Matt and BP60 Plain paper (which comply with ISO 9706). This German certification is very important for Businesses, particularly for the legal industry because of its permanent archive and forgery-proof characteristics.

pts

The requirements for PTS certification are:
  •                 Lightfastness
  •                 Water-resistant
  •                 Abrasion-proof
  •                 Heat-resistant

The target groups for Devices with PTS certification are:
  •                 Notaries
  •                 Advocates
  •                 Economy and Industry

Businesses previously had to rely on Laser technology to achieve PTS approved printing quality. However as well as being the first manufacturer to bring compact A3 Multifunction machines to market, Brother is the first to achieve PTS on its A3 Inkjet Multifunction Machines, making them a serious option for Business use.
ISO 9706: Paper for documents - Requirements for permanence

Brother’s BP60 matt and BP60 plain paper comply with ISO 9706, which specifies the requirements for permanent paper intended for documents given in terms of minimum strength measured by a tear test, minimum content of substance (such as calcium carbonate) that neutralize acid action measured by the alkali reserve, maximum content of easily oxidized material measured by the kappa number, maximum and minimum pH values of a cold water extract of the paper.

This helps reassure the customer that by using Brother Paper they are meeting international permanence standards.
