Case study explain

The Challenge

Each of the 19 warehouses uses two laser printers to print sheets of shelf edge labels for inclusion in deliveries to pharmacies across the UK. The company’s old printers picked up the paper from the front which meant the sheets had to  negotiate an S bend in the machine which was frequently causing labels to come off. The high operating temperature of the machines was also causing the glue on the label sheets to overheat.

The Solution

The solution was found in the Brother HL-8050N A4 mono laser printer, designed for heavy duty printing demands. The machine offers 34ppm printing speed, 1200 x 1200 dpi print resolution and has a 700 sheet paper capacity as standard (with an optional capacity of 1100 sheets).  Also, the machine picks up the paper/labels from the rear of the paper tray, meaning it doesn’t have to negotiate the S bend of the existing machines. Instead the paper goes round a gentle U shape, meaning it bends less and eliminates the problem of the labels coming off.

The Benefit

Gordon Ball, IT Deployment and Support Manager at AAH, says: “The HL-8050N has proved a very cost effective machine for us. Our decision to switch to this machine has reduced our running costs by half. It’s proving to be a very reliable printer.”  “The environment they are expected to work in is very difficult. It’s not the cleanest place and the van drivers who use them are not the most gentle of people. So it was important that the machine we chose was robust. The HL-8050N has coped very well with this challenging environment.”  “Crucially though, we now don’t have the problems with labels coming off because of the way the paper feeds in from the back. Also we don’t have the problem of the glue heating up because the HL-8050N is set to operate at a lower temperature.”
