Statement on Compliance with the REACH, Regulation No 1907/2006

(Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals):

At this time, there is no regulatory basis for determining whether or not a product is REACH compliant.

Please note that while REACH entered into force on 1st June 2007, the first REACH deadline which determines compliance was 1st December 2008.

Under REACH, companies operating in the EU may face certain obligations as manufacturers, importers and/or downstream users.

These obligations are staggered and become effective in stages; this means that different deadlines apply over the next ten (10) years.

  • 1st June to 1st Dec 2008 - Currently we are in the pre registration period for existing substances manufactured or imported into the EU at 1 tonne per annum or more
  • 1st  Dec 2010 - registration complete for substances of 1000 or more tones per annum or substances of very high concern greater than 1 tonne per annum
  • 1st June 2013 - registration complete for substances of 100 or more tones per annum
  • 1st June 2018 - registration complete for substances of 1 or more tones per annum

The first REACH deadline and, hence, the first compliance requirement is for pre-registration of substances by 1st December 2008.  The pre-registration phase has closed and Brother, and parties working on behalf of Brother, have completed the necessary pre-registrations.

We are aware that Article 33 of REACH requires suppliers to inform the recipients and consumers if an article received contains more than 0.1% (by weight per article) any substance(s) on the SVHC candidate list. However, the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) has only recently published the candidate list, so we are currently assessing which substances, if any, might be above 0.1% and thus require disclosure.  At the present time we have not identified any SVHC within our products above the level of 0.1%.

We will therefore continue to monitor the status of the candidate list as part of our on-going compliance activities.

Brother UK intends to fulfil all of the registration requirements of the REACH Regulation at the appropriate time.

As new developments occur, we will update this statement, but if you have any questions in the meantime, please contact me at
