If you were going to the Tour of Britain and had the chance to rub shoulders with the pros, be chauffeured in a motorcade and quaff champagne (or soft drinks) in hospitality, would you take it? Silly question, of course you would.
With the countdown to the UK’s highest ranked cycle race gathering serious pace and with our friends at Madison Genesis back on home soil after a training camp in the Pyrenees, we’d love to give someone the opportunity to do just that.
As official results, printing and imaging partner of the Tour of Britain, we’re offering one lucky cycling fan (and their plus one) the chance to win a VIP experience at Stage Two in Cumbria. Up for grabs is hospitality at the start and finish – that’s a champagne reception on arrival, buffet, open bar and an escort to watch podium presentations from a prime location – two spaces in a guest car and a meet and greet with British UCI Continental team Madison Genesis.
The second stage of the Tour of Britain takes place on Monday 5 September, starting in Carlisle and finishing in Kendal. The stage is 188.2km.
From Carlisle the riders will immediately head south to Penrith before turning west and tackling the hills of the Lake District, including Whinlatter Pass. The sternest of these tests is likely to come in Ambleside as the peloton take on the climb notoriously known as 'The Struggle' to cap a stage with 3,779m of climbing. The subsequent descent will take them down to Windermere before the run in to the finish at Kendal, with the 200m, 11% average climb of Beast Banks awaiting riders in the finale.
Dating back to the 1950s, the Tour of Britain is currently just one of six UCI men’s races held in Britain. This year’s route starts in Glasgow and will see teams travelling across the country to tackle eight stages.
