In your opinion, what have been the most significant recent advancements in technology which have changed the way we work?
Without a doubt, smartphones and tablets have revolutionised the way we work. In a fairly short period of time this type of technology has taken ‘remote working’ to a whole new level. In fact, research shows that the total mobile Western European workforce will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7.2 percent – from 96 million workers in 2014 to 143 million in 2018, accounting for 75% of the total workforce (IDC 2014).
What type of technology has the potential to mix things up in the workplace in the future?
Better and faster smartphones and tablets will continue to change our everyday lives, but the way we interact with ‘the cloud’ will have the biggest impact. This technology can dramatically increase productivity and workflow in the office since it lets people easily access their data on any internet device – no matter where they are in the world.
As a products and solutions specialist, what are some of the most significant challenges facing modern businesses which technology has or will soon be able to solve?
One of the biggest challenges is how businesses deal with the bring your own device (BYOD) and choose your own device (CYOD) culture. Employees don’t want to be restricted to one device, they need to have the latest and greatest products available to them. In a recent survey by IDC it was found that 20 percent of businesses are not even considering a policy for this new culture – these companies run the risk of being left behind.
